Development in Africa has been hampered by poor governance which has greatly derailed efforts on poverty alleviation, though there is progress on economical development, bad governance has underscored it efforts on enhancing prosperity. For sustainable economical development the environment has to be right and this can only happen with good governance that is sensitive to its citizens needs.
Most states and local authorities in Africa have been addressing its own bad governance issue without engaging it citizens & civic society in crafting solutions, in that content they end up not addressing the issues at stake. They underlying reason is due to these government institutions treating it citizens as dependence and not customers. They decide solutions to govern its citizens without consulting its citizens which ends up creating solutions that are not effective
The state institutions have not been willing to invest and finance market based solutions to govern, they will quickly approve and finance what they deem important; a supply syndrome solutions. Citizens usually are contend with supply based solutions given to them as they don’t have means, alternative & capacity to finance solutions that would address market based demand. The solution to the address the above issue is to engage citizens with its leaders to look for market based solutions and to invest and finance such solutions.
